What is in each set

Stage 1 — High-Contrast Cards
0–3 months

Stage 1 — High-Contrast Cards

A newborn sees the world in blurred greys, focusing best at 20–30cm — about the distance from your arms to your face. These twenty cards use only pure black and white at the boldest contrast the eye can register, so there is something for your baby to actually lock onto.

The patterns are drawn from Islamic geometry: the eight-point star, interlacing girih lines, the crescent, the simple arch of a mihrab. Familiar shapes, reduced to the two tones a newborn can see.

Stage 2 — First Colour
3–6 months

Stage 2 — First Colour

Around eight to twelve weeks, colour vision begins — and red is the first hue most babies resolve. These cards hold the high-contrast structure of Stage 1 but introduce one saturated colour at a time against black and white.

Motifs move from pure pattern towards recognisable objects: the dome, the lantern, the date palm, the prayer rug. Still simple, still bold, but now with something to name.

Stage 3 — Letters & Shapes

By six months colour vision is close to an adult's, and depth perception has arrived. The palette opens up across all twenty-four cards.

This is where the huruf hijaiyah appear — each letter paired with a colour illustration of something that begins with it. Your baby will not be reading, and that is not the point. The point is that the shapes of the letters become ordinary, familiar furniture of their visual world long before anyone asks them to learn one.

Stage 4 — First Words
9–12 months

Stage 4 — First Words

In the last quarter of the first year, babies start mapping sound to object. These twenty-four cards give them one clear illustration and one clear word — set in Arabic, Malay and English, so the household language and the language of the Qur'an sit on the same card, at the same size, with neither treated as a translation of the other.

Words are chosen from a baby's actual world: milk, moon, water, mother, father, bird, light, home.
